According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), jobs in the renewable energy sector reached 11.5 million globally during 2020, and are expected to grow exponentially over the next 10 years.
That's why one of the core values of the Barbados National Energy Policy (BNEP) is to promote education, awareness and capacity building, while also creating new jobs throughout the energy sector that increase overall employment opportunities in Barbados.
To achieve this, several educational institutions have already adapted their courses and programmes to include energy related classes and training. You can find detailed information for each option below:

Barbados Vocational Training Board
The Barbados Vocational Training Board is responsible for the coordination of various Schemes of Training under the Occupational Training Act Cap 42. These Schemes of Training regulate the training of apprentices and trainees in various skills and occupations. Training is given through an integrated system of modular Instructions, providing a unique form of training with a theoretical and practical component. The majority of the training is delivered in the work environment.
The institution currently offers an Apprenticeship in Solar Water Heating Systems Technician. Upon completion the apprentice should be capable of demonstrating safe working habits, interpreting drawings, planning and laying out pipework and fittings, repairing, maintaining and servicing solar heating systems.
